TTT: 2016 Mid-Year Favorites

We’re halfway through the year and I’m more than halfway through my Goodreads challenge goal! Let’s ignore my attempt at my 25 reads project…that one’s abysmal.

Anyway, so far this year I’ve been a bit lucky with the books I’ve picked up. A majority of them were enjoyable, though admittedly there will always be the occasion where I had to put the book down or was angry enough to rant about it. For the most part, I’ve been squee-ful, and likely a bunch of these books will make it to my top ten of the year by December.

Top Ten Mid-Year Favorite Books of 2016

A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab – Because the Essen Tasch and pretty pirates and Lila and my black-eyed husband prince Kells. And just oodles of squee-ness that I don’t want to get into right now because my brain has the risk of exploding from anticipation of the next book.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell – Or what I call “the book that caused a thousand book ruts.” Honestly, Cath was just precious. And her fanfiction was phenom.

The Rose & the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh – Sigh. No words can describe the book’s sheer prettiness, both outwardly and within the pages. Also, I am adamant about making some of the foods described in Ahdieh’s duology. I will at some point…

Fair Game by Patricia Briggs – Fae love! And witches! And saucy Anna-Charles scenes! And beheadings–I mean, erm. Well, I maintain that the beheading was totally justified.

Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs – So many expletives were let loose after the reading of this book. If my friend got a shiny ha’penny every time I sent her a text message with “OMG” to start it, I’m pretty sure she’d have been quickly rich.

Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder – Will always love Yelena and Valek and the world they belong in. This one had a lot more magic involved, which I loooooved.

Saga, Vol. 5 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples – Still hands down one of my favorite volumes of the series.

ScarletCress, and Winter by Marissa Meyer – Um. I JUST LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH? But if I had to pick an absolute favorite, definitely Cress because lots of Thorne being all…Thorney. Hee.

  1. Okay. You’re safe. (As if you were in any danger anyway … not with that wooden spike you have…) I saw the topic and HOPED you had put on a certain 2 or 3 books. They are THERE! \o/

  2. Hi there, Mari! I just thought that I’d stop by and introduce myself: I’m Lauren, your partner for this July’s Comment Challenge. Good to “meet” you! 🙂

I’m so excited to start A Gathering of Shadows – I absolutely adored A Darker Shade of Magic! Also, Fangirl is easily one of my favorite contemporary novels.

I love The Lunar Chronicles so much, but you’re right – Thorne is my favorite of the guys. Everything that comes out of his mouth is golden.

I really need to start in on Briggs – I’ve been told that I would love that series so many times!

    Great picks!

    • Hi Lauren! Nice to meet ya 😀

Briggs is lovely! Especially if you’re looking for a lighter read, I’d definitely recommend it. And omgash, I’m jealous that you’re just starting A Gathering of Shadows. That book was SO GOOD and so squeeful, and I hope you enjoy it.
