So it may have been over a month since I’ve done a Top Ten Tuesday list. My bad.

My brain is still trying to catch up to the list of tasks I’ve been pushing myself to do every day, and what with spring break finally coming, I’ve managed to at least get to a few things, writing and reading being first and foremost on my list. (Well, and lazing on my couch as I watch TV and play video games being another big plus, haha.)

Anyway, onto the TTT!

Top Ten of My Most Recent 5-Star Reads

Alright, so it’s still early on in the year to come up with this year’s “best-reads” list. I looked at my Goodreads list this year and pretty much saw that three of my eight 5-star ratings are books I’ve reread from previous years. So, I’ll be looking at my most recent 5-stars from this year and a bit of last year.

Saga, Vol. 2 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staple
Saga, Vol. 5 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staple

I highlight these two volumes because they were, hands down, my favorites of what I’ve read so far. I wouldn’t necessarily call them turning points, because hell, a lot of the story has turning points. All the same, the second volume had everything I could ever want in a graphic novel, and the fifth one had characters hunting down orgasming dragons. ‘Nuff said.

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

I cannot rave over these two books enough. In fact, I’m practically still raving over them to the detriment of friendships (well, I’m sure my friends still love me even though they have resigned to the fact that I’m a humongous fangirly book nerd). There had even come a point where I would “fast travel” in a video game and under my breath I’m whispering “Ars Travars” because I’m obsessed. Hem hem. In any case, I am so on-board this hype train and I’ve yet to want to get off.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

I honestly blame Fangirl for my book rut in February. It took me weeks to get over how awesome the book was, and even longer to stop gleefully squeeing over #SNOWBAZ in Carry On. Well, let’s be honest here, I’m still squeeing over them, but it’s not as overly-crazy as it was in December. I’ve yet to read the rest of Rowell’s stuff, but on the off-chance she comes up with another YA release later on in the road, I’d totally prioritize reading that, too.

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer – Definitely the start of a revolution right here. The rebels are finally banding together, and it’s only a matter of time before Cinder and her friends will be ready to take on the evil Queen Levana. Also, buh romance. Sigh.

Fire Study by Maria V. Snyder – YELENA AND VALEK FTW. *cough* I mean, there was a lot of fire in this book. I like fire. And Valek. And magic. And Yelena taking on the world. And did I mention Valek? You get the picture.

Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson – It normally takes me ages to get from one Sanderson book to another, but this particular book didn’t take long to polish off. Seriously, though, supervillains and a band of rebels going against the grain? I’m beginning to sense a pattern here with the books I’m going to end up reading this year.

Uprooted by Naomi Novik – I can’t remember if I’ve five-starred anything after this book (which I’d read sometime in June, maybe?), but I don’t mind throwing this book in again as one of my five-star reads. It was really just that good, and one of my favorite NetGalley ARCs of last year, which is saying much because it’s the only one I’ve five-starred so far on my list of ARCs.

    • Omgah the sequel was soooo good. I may have loved it even more than the first, and that’s saying lots, considering I’ve already five-starred ADSOM, haha

  1. Ahhhh so many books here that I want to read! I’ve having so much trouble getting my hands on A Darker Shade of Magic. My local bookshop couldn’t get it for me for some reason, and Book Depository lost my copy twice! Ridiculous. My last resort will be Amazon. Hopefully they don’t lose it as well. 😦
