TTT: T-Swizzle Songs

I…may be on a pretty big Taylor Swift kick the past few days. I mostly blame my bestie, but to be honest, I get into bouts where I will listen to particular albums over and over again, singing along with them. And I am not ashamed to say that.

So for this particular TTT, when I saw “music” and “songs”, I pretty much locked into one artist. Sorry not sorry.

Top Ten Books to Assign to Taylor Swift Songs

clean

“Clean” – Deerskin by Robin McKinley

I absolutely love this song, and every time I do think about the story behind it, I think of DeerskinDeerskin is dark and traumatic, especially to Lissar, who goes through a lot of trust issues in the book (for good reason). I can actually imagine Lissar just standing for long moments out in a rain or snow storm and just letting the elements take all her past traumas away.

fearless

“Fearless” – Divergent by Veronica Roth

The whole Dauntless saying of “Be Brave” is pretty much what I was thinking of when I thought of this song. Plus, I totally ship Tris/Four, and I always believed they gave each other strength and bravery when they needed it the most.

longlive

“Long Live” – The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Gods, there’s an entire stanza which just played like a scene from The Hunger Games, so this was apt. I know T-Swizzle actually did do two songs for the THG movies, but I never found a song more suited to the series than this one.

lovestory

“Love Story” – Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Mentioning Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet was way too easy. That is what the song is about. I normally dislike the star-crossed lovers trope, and I absolutely hate Romeo and Juliet, so I figured I’d put up one of the few star-crossed lovers books I actually did love. Daughter of Smoke and Bone totally won out.

mine

“Mine” – Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs

Lol, the title alone makes me think of the whole possessive Alpha thing that Adam and–to a degree–Mercy has over their relationship. It’s pretty smoldery at certain points of the book. Not that the song itself is smoldery (it’s more cutesy than anything), but yeah. It is what it is.

nevertogether

“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” – A Storm of Swords by G.R.R. Martin

This probably applies to the entire frelling series, because honestly, those poor Stark children are never going to reunite with each other, the rate they’re going. This idea of a reunited Stark family has never been more crushingly impossible than in A Storm of Swords. My poor emotions!

outofwoods

“Out of the Woods” – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling

Actually, I could probably have mentioned The Forest of Hands and Teeth in this one, too, because I swear I spent most of the chapters when they were IN THE WOODS going “Are we out of the woods yet?” Still, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows fit the best, because of the thing Ron and Hermione were going through on top of the already-taxing emotional turmoil the trio had just…traipsing through the woods.

sparksfly

“Sparks Fly” – Graceling by Kristin Cashore

Deep in my heart I know Katsa is a closet T-Swizzle fan, lol! Just change the color of the eyes (and the fact that it’s Po’s smoldering gaze that does Katsa in as opposed to his smile) in the song a bit and I feel like this was EXACTLY what Katsa and Po’s meet cute was at the beginning of the book. I can’t be the only one who saw the sparks flying the minute the two gazed at each other on Chapter 1.

storyofus

“The Story of Us” – Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Duh. Cather totally thinks of her life as a story, for one. And she made quite a number of things totally awkward in the book, up until adorkable Levi finally decided just to tell her how much he liked her. Lord, I cannot with these two and their love story.

trouble

“I Knew You Were Trouble” – Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

The Darkling, anyone? Although, I’m not sure Alina should be ashamed to fall into his seductive powers. That particular Grisha has um, very persuasive skills. Comes with the territory, I suppose.

Random note: I used a lot of songs from the Speak Now album. Haha. I guess I know which of her records I loved best.
