I’m still holding out to the hope that I might finish another book or two before the year is over and that I’d add them to the list, but let’s be honest here, Christmassing is a lot of work, and I have too much knitting and baking (and teaching) to get done beforehand. So more than likely this is a good time to list down my favorite ten books I’ve read this year XD. (In light of movie Awards Season happening sometime in January/February 2015, though…I might make up other random awards sometime then for books I’ve read in 2014).

Top Ten Books I Read in 2014**

In no particular order…

Squire (Protector of the Small #3) and Lady Knight (Protector of the Small #4) by Tamora Pierce – I put these together because these were the last two books of the Tortall quartet that I had not read until this year. Yeah, it only took me this long, but I finally did it! And boy, it’s definitely one of those series I could reread again if I had the time.

The Well of Ascension (Mistborn #2) and The Hero of Ages (Mistborn #3) by Brandon Sanderson – Another series I finished this year. Sanderson’s a writing beast, and I cannot wait to tear into another of his stories.

Silver Borne (Mercy Thompson #5), River Marked (Mercy Thompson #6), and Shifting Shadows by Patricia Briggs – The big pulp urban fantasy winner this year! I seriously did finish so many books of hers this year that it was inevitable that a book (or two…or three…) in Mercyverse would show up on my 2014 favorites list.

The Way of Shadows (Night Angel #1) by Brent Weeks – Technically this is a reread, but I am currently reading the sequel and enjoying it so far, and hopefully the rest of the trilogy will end in a bang just as well as this first book did.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor – I’m working through the series, but likely the rest of the trilogy will have to wait until next year. This was fantastic, though, and I’m glad I finally dusted up my copy and read it.

The Silvered by Tanya Huff – This book probably spurred my werewolf-related fantasy list this year, so I blame my friend for that. Totally awesome story, though, and I really do want a sequel. Or spinoff. Or, you know, anything related to this world. Yeah.

**According to my five-star ratings in Goodreads, that is.

  1. If I find a book that should’ve made my list I’ll count it for next years. I’ve been meaning to read Mistborn, or any other Sanderson. Smoke and Bone made my list too! I just love all the minor characters. All of these authors are on my wishlist!

    • Definitely read Mistborn!!! I hear his newest series is totally more fabulous, but I can’t help toting Mistborn because for a debut series, it was just so magnificent.
